About RCES

RESILIENT AND CLEAN ENERGY SYSTEMS

The transition to clean energy underlies all efforts to adapt to climate change and mitigate its effects. Decarbonizing our energy system requires a fundamental change in how energy is produced, transported, and consumed. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for decarbonisation, and Alberta is forging a pathway that reflects its unique “economic DNA.” The Resilient and Clean Energy Systems Initiative expands Alberta’s decarbonisation efforts by addressing the clean energy pillars of electrification and clean fuels in response to industry needs.

The RCES is a multi-institutional, multidisciplinary, and Alberta-wide effort to address the area of Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Technologies.

The Team includes world-leaders in this area with access to State-of-the-art Facilities.

Three interconnected themes focus on the development of novel technologies in

Theme 1: Reliable and resilient grid for energy integration
Theme 2: Low emission energy utilization through electrification
Theme 3: Alternative and clean biofuels and green hydrogen with carbon capture
